Spooky Season

11/2/2020

In a year as uncertain and chaotic as 2020, it’s important to find things to rely on and look forward to.  For the State Officer Team, we’re looking forward to Halloween right now.  So, in this blog we’re talking all things Halloween!

Favorite Halloween Candy: Zoe
Halloween is to candy as birthdays are to presents! Halloween is almost synonymous with candy, and fortunately, you’re talking to the biggest sweet tooth on Team 43 to get the best insight on Halloween candy! My favorite candy is Kit Kats. I love the chocolate wafers and the different flavors such as dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and cookies and cream. P.S- anything chocolate is the best way to go- period.

Favorite Halloween Movie: Xiyan
If you haven’t seen Silence of the Lambs, I would 11/10 recommend. I think it’s an immaculate blend of psychological horror and without too much gore. Although it is my favorite movie, it is not a part of my Halloween marathon. My favorite things to watch on Halloween are the Scary Movie series and of course, The Nightmare Before Christmas (because it’s a classic). Feel free to drop any movie recommendations for me via @tennesseetsa!

Favorite Costume Idea: Riley
Costumes can be done in so many different ways, it can be hard to choose just one. Personally, I like making my own and piecing it together with the things I can find around my house, but if you have a more complex idea for a costume, local thrift stores can have amazing things, along with a Halloween store. A few years ago, I put together a Lord of the Rings costume with an old dress, a toy bow and arrow I found around the house, and only ended up spending $5 on some fake elf ears. This is one of my favorite costumes I’ve done yet, and it was so simple! Going all out can be so fun too, Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I get it. Happy Halloween everyone, stay safe!

Favorite Halloween Activity: Jake
Nothing encompasses the spirit of Halloween more than an old fashioned horror movie or a well timed jump scare. My mother and I have a long standing tradition of watching our favorite horror movies the week before Halloween. Being the geek that I am, I mostly watch the movies to analyze the themes and hidden messages within although I'm still partial to the pure horror of movies like The Shining. For me Halloween isn't just spookiness and horror however. Another favorite Hallwoeen activity for me is helping my church's Trunk or Treat. There is just something magical about small town Trunk or Treats, from little kids dressed as pirates and zombies to parents swearing they only dressed up for the kids ( not the king sized Kit Kats Mrs. Smith gives out) its a part of Halloween i always look forward to.

Favorite Halloween Music: Carson
If you’re looking to get completely into the Halloween mood, then you need to match the music to the vibe!  One of my favorite classic Halloween songs is “Monster Mash”.  It seems to be a song that I hear every year around this time and brings back lots of memories from Halloween parties over the years.  However, the soundtracks from Hocus Pocus and The Adams Family are also filled with spooky vibes to get you in the Halloween mood.  For a full list of the State Officer Team’s favorite Halloween music, check out this Spotify Playlist!
